The Three Strikes law was supposed to keep us safer, but as a consequence, thousands of non-violent offenders were sentenced to mandatory life sentences in federal prison with no hope of parole. To right this crushing wrong and bring hope to shattered families, lawyer MiAngel Cody co-founded The Decarceration Collective. This group of lawyers and activists, some of whom themselves have incarcerated family members, work tirelessly to gain freedom for those who are serving unnecessarily harsh life sentences for relatively minor drug offenses.
