Description

UNITED STATES PREMIERE

This is the story of Lucia, Yoreme girl, who must find the strength to pursue her dream against the traditions of her people.

Lucia is a Yoreme girl who lives with her father, a harpist, and her grandparents in a small village El Júpare in Sonora. Lucia’s father, grieving the loss of his wife, Lucia’s mother, is cold and distant. Lucia longs to play the harp and reach out to her father, craving his love. But since harps are considered to have the female form, women aren’t allowed to play them. Her grandfather, though, sees what this means to Lucia and secretly teaches her to play. Ecstatic, and determined, Lucia practices everywhere. Will she ever get the chance to play the harp openly? The loving family drama unfolds against the backdrop of injustices faced by indigenous people. – Pratibha Kelapure
